4340 Ink
Roller Replacement (See Figure 2)
It is recommended that ink rollers be changed every three months.
1. Place the imprinter upright, with its front side towards you, and the lid
open.
2. While steadying the unit, pull the ink roller shaft (A) out of the bottom
of the carriage (F).
3. Remove the ink roller shaft (A) from the top of the carriage (E). The
roller and its shaft are now free to be removed from the carriage.
4. Remove the ink roller (B) from the ink roller shaft (A). The arrangement of
any spacers should be noted before the roller is removed (see #5).
5. In some cases, the shaft will have spacers (C, D)
as well as an ink roller. Please make careful note of the number and position
of any roller spacers on the shaft as you remove them. Upon re-assembly, the
spacers will have to be assembled in the same positions. The number, sizes and
positions of any spacers is not standard, and depends entirely on the
customized application of the particular unit being worked on.
6. Place the new ink roller (B) onto the roller shaft (A), with any required
spacers (C, D).
7. Insert the outside end of the roller shaft (A) into the top of the carriage
(E).
8. Press the pointed end of the roller shaft (A) into the bottom of the
carriage (F), until it snaps into place.
9. Ensure that the ink roller (B) rotates freely.

IMPRINTER
DENSITY ADJUSTMENT (see Figure 4)
Model 4340
Please note: Your imprinter should have been adjusted at the factory to meet
the specifications of your cards and forms. Before making any adjustments,
please replace your ink roller, this may solve your problem.
Imprint density is the darkness or lightness of the characters printed.
Uniformity in printing is achieved by setting the imprint deck so that all
printing is equally light or dark.
NOTE: If there is a dater in the unit, make sure to back it off so that it is
not imprinting at all. To achieve this, simply turn the three screws (D,
E) located on the top and sides of the dater counter-clockwise.
The imprint density is adjusted using four phillips head adjusting screws (A)
on the deck. Since it only takes three points to define a plane, and the deck
is mounted on four points (the four screws), any adjustment will require that
two screws be turned, not just one.
1. Place the unit upright with the front side towards you, the lid open and
the cord plugged in.
2. Loosen the two phillips head retaining screws (F) before making any
adjustments.
3. Install a metal embossed station plate (if applicable).
4. Place the embossed plastic card in the card holder (B) on the anvil. Place
a piece of paper over the card and plate (if applicable).
5. Close the lid. The unit should operate and the lid should open. It is
possible that the unit may jam. If this occurs, unplug the unit, operate the
release lever underneath the unit to open the lid.
6. Observe the imprint on the paper.
· If the imprint is extremely dark or caused the unit to jam, the screws (A)
must be adjusted approximately a half turn counter-clockwise.
· If the imprint is too light or non-existent, then the screws must be
adjusted approximately a half turn clockwise.
· If the imprint is too heavy in one corner, and too light in another, the
screw in the heavy corner must be adjusted counter-clockwise, and the screw in
the light corner must be adjusted clockwise by the same amount.
· If the station plate imprint (if applicable) is much lighter than the card,
then a plastic or metal shim (C) must be installed under the station plate.
These shims are available in 0.005" and 0.012" thickness. In most cases, a
0.005" shim is required.
· After every adjustment, try rocking the deck diagonally to test that all of
the screws are properly seated. This ensures reliable imprints.
7. Repeat Steps #5 & #6 until the imprint is satisfactory.
DATER
IMPRINT ADJUSTMENT (if applicable)
NOTE: The imprint adjustment to the deck (card and any station plate) should
be completed before adjusting the dater imprint.
1. Place the unit upright with the front side towards you, the lid open and
the cord plugged in.
2. Install a station plate if the unit takes or requires one. Place the
embossed card in the card holder (B), and set all the numerals on the dater to
"8". The number "8" is the fullest numeral, making the imprint adjusting
somewhat easier.
3. Put in a piece of paper and close the lid. The unit will operate and the
lid will open.
4. Examine the imprint on the paper.
· If the dater imprint is lighter than the card & plate or is non-existent,
then the two dater imprint screws (D) at both sides of the dater must be
turned clockwise.
· If the dater imprint is much heavier than the card & plate, then the two
dater imprint screws (D) at both sides of the dater must be turned
counter-clockwise.
· If one end of the dater line is too light, then the screw on that end must
be turned clockwise.
· If
the one side of the dater characters (top or bottom) is heavier than the
other, then the dater roll screw (E) must be turned counter-clockwise. If the
side closest to the screw is lighter than the other side, then the dater roll
screw (E) must be turned clockwise.
5. Repeat Steps #3 & #4 until the dater imprint is equal in density to the
card (and plate, if applicable).
