Ribbon Definitions
We carry ribbons for all major card printers. Please use this guide to
help figure out what ribbons are best for you.
Dye sublimation printers blend yellow (Y), magenta (M), and cyan (C) to
produce full color 300 dpi images on plastic cards. Because the image is
placed on the surface of a card a protective overlay (O) or topcoat (T) is
generally applied.
The resin (K) panel is used for printing true black on a card. (Most
barcode readers can only read a barcode printed with a resin panel.) Resin
bonds with the surface of the card and generally does not require an overlay -
unless the card is to be used heavily in a swipe reader.
